Christmas Carols

Christmas Carols

Me, Nige and his wife Ronnie at the Blackwood Hills Baptist Church Christmas Carols on Hewett Oval in Blackwood, South Australia.

The mood is fantastic, the kiddies are excited and the music beautiful. I'm enjoying myself but dreading the appearance of the traditional puppet show.

EVE-Online: Drake

EVE-Online: Drake
Originally uploaded by TheScream.

After a couple of months flying frigates and cruisers in EVE-Online, I've trained up enough skills to be able to fly a battlecruiser. I have chosen a Drake as it is a missile-boat and my skills are focussed on missiles.

I'm really enjoying this MMORPG because it appeals to my capitalist nature. It has a complex economy that behaves realistically and all facets of society can be represented from the bullies and contract killers to the humanitarians and industrialists.

Incidentally, the picture is an in-game screenshot. Yes, the graphics really are this good.

Textamerica.com tehsuck

I'm pretty disappointed with Textamerica.com right now. I've only just found that all non-paying subscribers will have their blogs deleted from January 1st. Now, its completely within their rights to do so but to do so without providing a practical way of backing up your photos and entries is just plain wrong.

Fortunately I've been able to back it all up using a combination of this tool and Teleport Pro. Now all I need to do is spend a day or two re-creating all 380-odd entries. *sigh*

This is my grandfather, Ray Beaumont. He's 94. He is an inspiration to me. I admire his morality, modesty, generosity, love and devotion to others as well as his skill in business. This photo was taken at the yearly Beaumont family Christmas get-together.

My first experience using Apple Boot Camp to install Windows on a Mac. Was really easy from the OSX side of things but discovered that the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and MightyMouse have to be paired each time you boot into Windows. GRRR!

8800GTX

8800GTX

*grin* for the first time since I bought the Diamond Viper V550 (nVidia TNT 16MB AGP card) in 1998, I have treated myself to the best video card on the market. I chose the MSI card because it was the only one I could get locally from one of my better suppliers. This way, if anything goes wrong with it, warranty will not be an issue. The interesting thing is, all the 1st generation 8800GTX cards are manufactured by ASUS anyway with the only differentiation allowed between manufacturers being the heatsink and most (including MSI) have just got the standard heatsink with their own branding on it. The box below the 8800GTX graphics card is the new Power Supply. The Thermaltake Toughpower 750W. I chose this because I wanted something future-resistant with at least 650W and detachable cables. Plus I got it for an awesome price.

Knife not required. This porterhouse is so tender it falls apart. This is the best steak I've had in living memory and only cost USD$7.50. Exactly the same steak sells in Japan for around USD$200. Please, don't butcher your steak, have it cooked rare or medium rare. Good steak looks like this when cooked medium rare. Bad steak will occasionally moo when cooked medium rare.
